Rebekah Raye - Gina Sawin - Jacqueline Wilson

Rebekah Raye, Hidden Treasure, ink, watercolor, pastel, 4" x 4", $425
“Birds,” an exhibition featuring Rebekah Raye, Gina Sawin and Jacqueline Wilson will be on display at Isalos Fine Art, 26 Main Street, Stonington from May 15th through May 31st.

Gina Sawin, Tern Group over the Bay, oil on canvas, 24" x 36", $3,500
Gina Sawin, who describes her style as “painterly representation” is drawn to shore and water birds for their abstract forms, finding in them an atmosphere of quiet contemplation. In dense layers of paint, colors beneath emerge and blend to unite the bird with its surroundings. Sawin earned her BFA and MFA degrees at the Parsons School of Design and paints in her studio on her family farm in Maine.
Rebekah Raye’s bird and animal paintings are derived from her affinity with the natural world around her East Blue Hill Studio. She has illustrated two children’s books, including “The Very Best Bed,” which she also wrote.

Jacqueline Wilson, Northern Gannets, woodcut, 11" x 16", $100 (unframed)
Jacqueline Wilson’s woodcut prints of birds are strong on personality. Though they often have a delicate, eloquent feel, her backgrounds have a deliberately rough-hewn appearance, reminding us that the image has been carved out of wood and printed by hand. She studied art at UCLA and the Rhode Island School of Design.
The show is kicked-off by the Wings, Waves & Woods weekend, and will also feature additional bird-oriented art by regular gallery artists.
