Bryan Gagner

Bryan Gagner is a self-taught photographer living in Sedgwick, Maine. His photographs are often the result of hiking or kayaking to remote places where he sets up his camera and waits for the right moment. Gagner considers photography as a way to enahance his connection with nature and to save a record of a moment or a place.

Gagner usually uses Fuji Velvia film for its slow speed, fine grain and vibrant colors. He scans the negatives with a Polaroid Sprint Scan 120, and prints with an Epson Stylus Pro 7600 wide format printer. He uses Ultrachrome inks on 100% cotton fine art paper. Testing has found these inks on this paper will not fade or lose their color balance for over 150 years when displayed behind UV glass out of direct sunlight.

Gagner uses a Linhof Super Technika 6” x 9” cm view camera, a Linhoff 47 mm fixed-lens 6” x 9” cm viewfinder camera, and a Nikon N90s. In addition
to his photography, Gagner works as a sternman
on a lobster boat.
